Worst Do Nothing Congress? I Think So!

Statement

Worst Congress

Now that the worst Congress in history is drawing to a close, latest polls show a 12.3% approval rating and a dismally small 142 public laws enacted . We should now take a moment to review the disaster that John Boehner and Mike Simpson have presided over. For starters, this group of "statesmen" closed down the government in 2013 because they, like a spoiled child, didn't get their way. After a seventeen day tantrum and 24 billion dollars lost, they declared defeat and moved on to other mischief. They tried to defund the Affordable Care Act dozens of times and refused to pass legislation that would require employers to pay the same wages to both male and female employees that do the same job.

They refused to raise the minimum wage, even though studies have shown that such legislation would raise millions out of poverty, save the federal government billions of dollars, and stimulate economic growth. Even their hero, Mitt Romney, has called for enacting this critical piece of legislation.

The House of Representatives has also refused to deal with the Senate passed immigration reform bill even though a majority of House members have committed to vote for immigration reform. Now, with thousands of children from Central America crossing the border to escape unsafe conditions in their native countries (murder, rape, sex slavery, and other forms of violence), the GOP seems determined to inflict additional harm on these defenseless children begging for our protection. Their callous refusal to appropriate funding to protect and process these at risk refugees demonstrates how they earned the title as the worst Congress in history. To add insult to injury, they also included in their feeble attempt to deal with the refugee crisis, a provision that would strip DREAMers of their protected status and expose more than a half million young Americans to deportation. What happened to the promise on our Statue of Liberty "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free".

This dismal record set by the 113th Congress will be difficult to match, unless voters re-elect these incumbents to another term and then the craziness will continue for another two years. Please express your disdain for Congress with a "no confidence" vote by voting Richard Stallings in November.
